Chapter 8
Alex
The hallways of the college buzzed with activity as students hurried to their next classes. Among them, I walked alongside Blaze, a sense of determination propelling me forward. I knew exactly where I wanted to take himâa quiet, secluded spot where we could have a 'conversation' without any interruptions.
As we ventured deeper into the college, Blaze's apprehension became palpable. His shoulders tensed, and he cast nervous glances around, clearly aware of the weight of the situation. He had been the tormentor, and he knew that I knew.
Finally, we reached our destinationâa serene courtyard tucked away from the bustling crowds. The sound of laughter and chatter from afar was replaced by the soft rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze.
I turned to Blaze, my expression unwavering but not unkind. "Blaze, we need to talk," I began, my voice steady. "I know about what happened with Daniel, and it's not something I can just ignore."
Blaze shifted uncomfortably, avoiding eye contact. "Look, I didn't mean for things to get so out of hand. It was just... stupid stuff."
I sighed, my tone softening. "Blaze, bullying isn't just 'stupid stuff.' It hurts people, and it has hurt Daniel deeply."
Not satisfied with the direction this was taking, he decided to confront me, "So, who's Daniel to you, anyway?"
I met Blaze's gaze evenly, my tone calm but resolute. "Daniel," I replied, "he's someone special to me."
Blaze's apprehension was palpable as he realized that my response held a depth of meaning beyond the words themselves. He took a step back as if trying to distance himself from the implications of my answer. "I see," he mumbled, his bravado waning.
Sensing an opportunity to drive home the importance of treating others with respect, I closed the gap between us, my stature and the weight of my position as the town's sheriff looming over him.
Blaze could feel the pressure, his discomfort evident in his shifting stance and the nervous glances he cast around the courtyard.
"You know," I said, my voice carrying a hint of authority, "as the town's sheriff, I'm here to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our community, including Daniel. Bullying has consequences, Blaze, and I hope you understand that."
Blaze's emotions were raw, his eyes glistening with unshed tears, as our conversation weighed heavily on his conscience. His shoulders slumped, and he seemed to shrink before me as if attempting to make himself physically smaller in my presence.
Each word I had spoken carried the weight of authority and expectation, and Blaze could feel the enormity of the situation pressing upon him. His posture betrayed a mix of remorse and vulnerability, and his gaze remained downcast, unable to meet mine directly.
He never thought that the sheriff himself would protect Daniel from him.
It was a defining moment for him, where the weight of his actions bore down upon his conscience, and the realization of the consequences of his behavior became all too real.
As Blaze's emotions continued to unravel, he found his voice, his words trembling but earnest. "I swear, I'm going to stop bullying Daniel," he confessed, his gaze still fixed on the ground.
